ABOUT US
The Vicious Circle was founded in 2010 by Jerry Marsini, Meredith Lynsey Schade, and Tony Speciale to create, develop and produce new, ensemble-based works. The company was most recently represented on Broadway with The Inheritance by Matthew Lopez, for which it launched a ticketing initiative to provide affordable access to underserved LGBTQ+ communities.
Past projects have included producing the international Gun Control Theatre Action Week festival of plays with NoPassport, the development of the play Buyer Beware or “How Lenny Bruce Found a Safe Space” (and lost it again) by Michael Weller, Locust Song by Jerry Marsini, Unnatural Acts by Plastic Theatre (Classic Stage Company), and Soulographie: Our Genocides, a series of 17 plays written by Erik Ehn on human rights issues – the latter of which was produced across the nation over the course of two years, culminating in a two-week marathon at La MaMa in November 2012.

Unnatural Acts
“…powerfully riveting….Speciale has staged this engrossing story with flair and impressive theatricality, employing a company of extremely talented actors. In a riveting series of increasingly charged vignettes, he unspools a story of prejudice, intimidation, friendship, fear and betrayal that displays the crushing effect of societally-approved homophobia.”

Soulographie
“It is clear that Mr. Ehn has something vitally important to say and a many-splendored voice with which to say it.”
– Anita Gates, New York Times
The Inheritance
“There’s no question that The Inheritance, which is often explosively funny and more often piercingly moving, is a major work of contemporary theater, the rare play that matches its breathtaking imaginative breadth with equal measures of dramatic ingenuity and electrifying emotional power.”
